Introduction

Getting Started

Get up and running with FutureBase in minutes

This guide will help you set up FutureBase on your website quickly and efficiently.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • A publicly accessible website
  • Ideas on what are the most common questions your customers might ask
  • (If you want to deploy it right away) Access to your website's codebase or content management system

Step 1: Create Your Account

  1. Visit futurebase.io and sign up for an account
  2. Complete your organization profile. At this step you will be asked to provide your website URL.
  3. Select your plan and complete checkout

Step 2: Create Your First Chatbot

Once logged in to your dashboard:

  1. Add your content in the "Knowledge Base" section.
  2. Customize your settings and styling in "Playground & Styling" page.

Upload Documents

  1. Navigate to the "Knowledge Base" section
  2. Upload your support documents, FAQs, or product information
  3. Supported formats: PDF, TXT, Markdown, Word documents

Connect Other Data Sources

Alternatively, connect existing knowledge bases:

  • Link to your help center or documentation site
  • Import from Notion, Confluence, or other platforms (coming soon)

Step 3: Test out your chatbot

At this point you will be able to test your chatbot directly from the "Playground & Styling" page in your dashboard. Use the chat interface there to ask questions and see how your chatbot responds based on the content you've provided.

Step 4: Install the Chat Widget

After configuring your chatbot, it's time to add it to your website:

Get Your Installation Code

  1. Go to the Channels tab in your dashboard
  2. Select the "Web Widget" option
  3. Copy the provided JavaScript snippet

Add to Your Website

Paste the code snippet just before the closing </head> tag in your HTML:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <title>Your Website</title>

    <!-- FutureBase Widget -->
    <script src="..."></script>
  </head>
  <body>
    <!-- Your website content -->
  </body>
</html>

Don't worry - the script is lightweight and optimized for performance. The actual chatbot functionality loads asynchronously to avoid impacting your site's load times.

Step 5: Test Your Chatbot

  1. Refresh your website
  2. You should see the chat bubble appear in the bottom-right corner
  3. Click on it and try asking a question
  4. Verify that the chatbot responds appropriately

Step 6: Customize and Optimize

Now that your chatbot is live, you can:

  • Customize the appearance: Match your brand colors and style
  • Set up triggers: Configure when and where the chat bubble appears (coming soon)
  • Review conversations: Monitor interactions in your dashboard
  • Improve responses: Add more content to your knowledge base based on common questions

Common Issues

Chat Widget Not Appearing

  • Check the script placement: Ensure the code is before the closing </body> tag
  • Verify your chatbot ID: Make sure you're using the correct ID from your dashboard
  • Clear browser cache: Sometimes cached files prevent the widget from loading
  • Disable ad blockers: Some browser extensions may block the chat widget script, especially if loaded through Google Tag Manager

Chatbot Not Responding

  • Check knowledge base: Ensure you've added content for the chatbot to reference, and that the content is enabled for the chatbot to use
  • Verify AI model settings: Make sure your selected a powerful enough AI model for the task. The more actions and integrations you add, the more capable the model needs to be
  • Contact Support: If issues persist, reach out to our support team for assistance

Slow Response Times

  • Optimize knowledge base: Remove duplicate or unnecessary content
  • Consider changing the model: Some AI models are faster than others; choose one that balances speed and accuracy for your needs
  • Check network connectivity: Slow internet can affect performance
